Getting started

  1. Inside the admin panel navigate to the Data Sources page and click + NEW on the top right corner.
  1. Choose Facebook from the list.
  1. Click Authenticate with Facebook and go through the authentication flow.
  1. Select the accounts you would like to connect.
  1. Click Save.

UTM tagging best practices

Adding a utm_id parameter to your tagging template will guarantee an improved stitching quality of costs to sessions without altering the rest of your existing UTM tags.
We suggest using the following format for the utm_id parameter in Facebook ads:

utm_id={{campaign.id}}_{{adset.id}}_{{ad.id}}
Once the utm_id parameter is implemented, the sessions will be stitched with costs at the ad level, and the Campaign, Ad Group, and Ad Name dimensions of the SegmentStream reports will display the Facebook campaign name, ad set name, and ad name, respectively.

Supported dynamic URL parameters

By default Facebook allows to use a lot of dynamic URL tagging parameters to track campaigns.
SegmentStream supports the following parameters:

The unique ID of the ad.

The unique ID of the ad set. An ad set is a group of ads that share the same budget, schedule, delivery optimisation and targeting.

The unique ID number of the ad campaign. A campaign contains ad sets and ads.

The name of the ad
{{adset.name}}
The name of the ad set. An ad set is a group of ads that share the same budget, schedule, delivery optimisation and targeting.
{{campaign.name}}
The name of the ad campaign. A campaign contains ad sets and ads.
{{site_source_name}}

Sharing access with SegmentStream

To help SegmentStream perform quality checks and validate data, you can share view-only access to your Facebook Ads account. Here’s how:
  1. Open Facebook Business Manager and go to AccountsAd accounts.
  1. Select the ad account you want to share, and click Assign Partner.

  1. Enter SegmentStream’s business ID: 843884825767231.
  1. Select View Performance for view-only access, then click Assign.
  1. Your Facebook Ad Account is now shared with SegmentStream.
